Characteristics of the Saved Sect

Question: Who are the Saved and Victorious sect in this era? And what are their characteristics and signs?

Response: The Saved and Victorious sect in this era - till the Hour is established – are those the Messenger of Allaah stated regarding them when he was asked as soon as he said: “The Jews were divided into seventy-one sects and the Christians were divided into seventy two-sects. And this Ummah will be divided into seventy three sects, all of them in the fire but one.”  They asked:  “Which one is this? He replied, "They are those who are upon what I and my companions are upon today.”[1]

Allaah the Exalted stated regarding them: “And the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhaajiroon) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.”[2]

One of the characteristics of this sect is that they hold on to that which the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions were upon. From among their characteristics is that they are patient upon the truth without paying attention to the sayings of those who oppose the truth; and the blame of the blamers do not bother them for the sake of Allaah. The Prophet said: “There will not cease to be a group from my Ummah manifest and upon the truth not being harmed by those who forsake them or  by those who oppose them until the Command of Allaah comes while they are upon that.”[3]

Also included among the characteristics of the Saved and Victorious sect is that they love the pious predecessors, praise them, pray for them and cling to their narrations. Further, among their characteristics is that they do not disparage anyone among the salaf whether the Companions or those who came after them.

One of the signs of the deviant sect is that they hate the salaf and the methodology of the salaf, and caution people against it.
