Question: Is it
permissible for a traveller, if he prays Jumu’ah prayer with residents, to combine
‘Asr prayer with it?
Response: It is
not permissible for him to do that because nothing should be combined with the
Jumu’ah prayer. Rather, he must perform the ‘Asr prayer during its time. But if
a traveller performs Dhuhr prayer on Friday without praying Jumu’ah prayer with
residents, there is no blame upon him to combine it with ‘Asr prayer, because
Jumu’ah prayer is not obligatory upon a traveller; and because the Prophet
(sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) combined Dhuhr and ‘Asr during the Farewell Pilgrimage
on the day of Arafah with one Adhaan and two Iqaamah, and he did not perform Jumu’ah
prayer.
