Shaykh Muhammad Saalih
al-Munajjid said:
In the history of the
Ummah – and all praise is due to Allaah – a lot of sincere ones have gone by.
Their conduct was light, model and goodness to those who came after them. Consequently,
Allaah left their conduct and memory so that those who will come after them
would emulate them. At the top of these people are the Prophets and the leader
among them is Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam). Also included are
the companions of the Prophets; and the leader among them are the companions of
Prophet (may Allaah be pleased with him) who conquered lands with their
sincerity and through them, the slaves entered the religion of Allaah, as well
as those who came after them of the taabi’oon (successors of the companions)
and their successors.
One of the amazing
stories of the sincere ones is that of Alee bin al-Husain. Alee bin al-Husain
used to carry bread in the night on his back searching for the needy during the
night. He would say: ‘Charity in the night extinguishes the anger of the Lord.’
People among the inhabitants of Madeenah used to live without knowing where
their livelihood is coming from. When ‘Alee bin al-Husain died, they missed
what he used to give in the night. They saw traces of scabies on his back as a
result of what he used to carry in the night to the dwelling of the needy. And
he used to go round one hundred houses. Those were the conditions and stories
Allaah made manifest so that its companions would be people who would be
emulated.
