Imaam Ibn
Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) stated:
Allaah
– exalted be He – has guaranteed victory for His religion, His party and His
friends who establish His religion with knowledge and action. He did not
guarantee victory for falsehood even if its companion believes that he is
right. Similarly, honor and highness are only for the people of eemaan that Allaah sent His Messengers
with and sent down His Books with it; it is knowledge, action and condition. Allaah
the most High said: “And you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true)
believers.”[1]
A servant will have superiority in accordance
with what he possesses of eemaan.
Allaah
the most High said: “But honour, power and glory belong to Allaah, His Messenger
(Muhammad), and to the believers.”[2]
He will
also have honor in proportion to what he possesses of eemaan and its reality. If a portion of superiority and honor
eludes him, it will be in exchange of what eluded him of the reality of eemaan in knowledge and action, inwardly
and outwardly. The same is applicable to defending the servant; it will be in
accordance with his eemaan.
Allaah the most High said: “Truly,
Allaah defends those who believe.”[3]
If the defense is weak, it is due to the deficiency in his eemaan. So also is sufficiency; it will
be in proportion to eemaan. Allaah
the most High said: “O Prophet (Muhammad)! Allaah is Sufficient for you
and for the believers who follow you.”[4]
That is, Allaah is sufficient
for you and sufficient for your followers- He will be enough for you and enough
for them...
Likewise, the alliance of Allaah to His
servant is in accordance with his eemaan;
Allaah the most High said: “And Allaah is the ally of the believers.”[5]
He, the most High, also
said: “Allaah is the ally of those who believe.”[6]
Similarly, special companionship is for the people of eemaan as stated by Allaah, the most
High: “And verily, Allaah is with the believers.”[7]
If eemaan decreases and
becomes weak, a slave’s share of Allaah’s alliance to him and His special
companionship will be in proportion to his share of eemaan.
The same applies to victory and
complete support; it is only for the people of complete eemaan. Allaah the most High said: “Verily, We will indeed
make victorious Our Messengers and those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah
Islamic Monotheism) in this world’s life and on the Day when the witnesses will
stand forth, (i.e. Day of Resurrection).”[8]
He also said: “So We supported
those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant[9].
