One should be generous with one’s honour like the generosity of Aboo
Damdam among the Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them). He used to say
when morning came: “O Allaah, I do not have wealth to give as charity to the
people, but I have given out charity with my honour. Whoever abuses me or
slanders me is absolved.” The Prophet then said, “Who among you can be like Aboo Damdam?” [1]
This type of generosity contains safety and soundness of the breast, ease of
the heart and freedom from being hostile to the creatures.
